The Story Behind Smash Rotterdam
Smash Rotterdam was born from a couple of good friends with a serious love for burgers and a splash of nostalgia. In 2021, Ronald Schoonrok and Diego Buik put their heads together to bring their dream to life: the ultimate smash burger joint. What started as a concept grew into the restaurant that finally opened its doors in October 2024. And they didn’t do it alone! With help from even more friends and a successful crowdfunding campaign, they raised a whopping €93,000. Yep, you read that right: Smash Rotterdam was literally built “by friends, for friends.”
The result? A place where everyone feels at home, surrounded by the vibes of the ’80s and early ’90s – no coincidence, as both guys were born in 1983. Think neon lights, retro tunes, and burgers that will make your taste buds sing.
Smash Rotterdam is inspired by the legendary burger joints from America, like McDonalds, Burger King, Five Guys, In ’n Out Burger etc… Just like these icons, at Smash Rotterdam, quality goes hand in hand with fun and good vibes. At one of Rotterdam finest places to be, Pathé Schouwburgplein.
